East meets West in our first Bridge Builder event this fall. On Monday, November 8th at 6:15 p.m., Zen Master Miao Tsan will engage in a searching dialogue with The Very Reverend Pittman McGehee. These two revered spiritual leaders will share their philosophical and religious perspectives on the pathway to truth and oneness. Their conversation will be moderated by counselor, consultant, teacher and speaker Bill Kerley in Herring Hall 100 on the campus of Rice. The program is free and open to the public. It will be preceded by a reception at 5:30 p.m. Paid parking is available in the Rice Central Campus Garage.

Master Miao Tsan is abbot of the Vairocana Zen Monastery in Garden Grove, CA, a lecturer and author of the forthcoming book Just Use This Mind: Following the Essence of Zen to Oneness of Mind, Body, and Spirit (Bright Sky Press, January 2011). Reverend Pittman McGehee, D.D. is a renowned Jungian analyst, Episcopal priest, and an adjunct lecturer in Analytical Psychology at the University of Houston. After serving as the Dean of Houston's Christ Church Cathedral for 11 years, Dr. McGehee retired to become director of The Institute for the Advancement of Psychology and Spirituality. He also maintains a private practice as a priest/psychoanalyst and teacher/lecturer.

Master Miao Tsan's Just Use This Mind, critically acclaimed in Taiwan and mainland China, shows readers from any and all religious or philosophical traditions the importance of using our minds to master our thoughts whether through the practice of Zen or through our own faith or philosophical traditions. Liberated from cultural attachments in this way, the essence of Zen training brings people back home to a place of deeper meaning and leads us to our true selves, where mind and body are one. The program will be followed by a Q&A session, book sale and signings by the featured speakers.
