Tuesday, June 5, 2012
4:45 PM  to 8:00 PM

4th floor Campus Observatory; Also 101  Brockman Hall for Physics
Rice University
6100 Main St
Houston, Texas, USA

The Transit of Venus across the Sun is an historic event, and won't occur again until 2117! Starts around 5pm and will last until sunset. (Can be seen longer if you view from a more westerly location). Weather permitting, we will have telescopes and binoculars set up on the 4th floor observatory patio and perhaps also in the parking lot. We will also have the live NASA webcast in Brockman 101, starting 4:50 pm

For more information of the transit, see the Goddard Transit site or transitofvenus.org. For more locations where you may watch the transit safely (including the live online webcast) see The NASA transit webpage.

BAD WEATHER: In the event of clouds and uncertain weather, check here for updates to see if the public event will be held. We WiLL still have the webcast activities. http://www.ruf.rice.edu/~ruco/open_houses.html

Closest parking is in North satellite lot (if you arrive before 5:30 or the North lot between entrances 20 and 21 (if you arrive after 5:30 pm). Reduced fee parking in Greenbriar lot. If the main doors in the breezeway are locked, enter Brockman hall through the receiving entrance 118 (southeast corner) and take the elevator up to the fourth floor observatory.
