National Engineers Week - Engineer Your Career

Engineering professionals discuss their work and how their education prepared them for their roles in industry and research. This panel discussion allows attendees to ask participants about their work and the challenges of engineering in the 21st century.

A dessert reception in Martel Hall will follow the program.

    Speaker Bios
    Carrie Braun, strategy and investor relations, Apache Corporation, Statistics, ‘07
    Carrie started her career at Morgan Stanley, as a Houston-based oil and gas investment banking analyst. She then moved to Apache Corporation, where she has held roles in strategy and investor relations.

    Mike Cox, senior manager / recruiter, Schlumberger Business Consulting, Mechanical Engineering, ‘03
    Mike worked for Accenture’s consulting group focusing on energy industry clients, then moved to Schlumberger Business Consulting (SBC) in 2007. He has since worked for a variety of oil and gas operators and now has responsibility for recruiting in the Americas and training globally.

    Craig Dinsmore, engineering management, NASA, Master’s, Mechanical Engineering,’83
    Craig manages the Thermal Systems Branch at NASA Johnson Space Center (JSC), which develops new spacecraft thermal control technologies and manages the International Space Station’s active thermal control system. His career spans engineering design, engineering management, and branch management roles.

    Michael Gibson, consultant, Chemorganics, Ph.D. Chemical Engineering,’73
    Michael received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in chemical engineering from Cornell University He came to Houston 1966 for a job with Exxon (then Humble Oil) in the Baytown refinery, and then earned his Ph.D. from Rice. He is currently a member of the Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering Centennial Council.

    Shuman Talukdar, business development, Symantec, Electrical Engineering/Computer Science, ‘99
    Shuman drives corporate business development efforts for Symantec across the cloud sector, as part of the corporate development team. He's been involved with both the start-up and growth of technology companies and with strategic consulting of existing companies around the globe.
