This work will discuss the importance of interfaces in the synthesis of modern composites, specifically, polymer composites/blends. Although a large amount of focus has been given to making materials stronger, tougher, and lighter; material synthesis has stayed more or less stagnant. This work focuses on the use of liquid inclusions and liquid phases to synthesize novel materials with unique properties. The addition of a liquid phase allows materials to better disperse strain and enhances mechanical properties. The properties of several novel materials were studied using a variety of in-depth methods including Dynamic Mechanical Testing (DMA), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM),Contact Angle (CA), X-Ray Computerized Tomography, Raman Spectroscopy, as well as Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA).
