Firstly, a Van Allen Probes observation of chorus wave intensity modulated by ultralowfrequency compressional poloidal mode is presented. Secondly, an eigenmode analysis of compressional poloidal modes is performed to investigate how the thermal pressure of the ring current affects the eigenfrequency of poloidal modes and the characteristics of the compressional magnetic field component. Eigenmode analysis is performed in the axially-symmetrical plasma equilibrium having a localized radial distribution of ring current pressure and a self-consistent magnetic field. The results with finite thermal pressure are compared against the results of a vacuum dipole magnetic field with no plasma pressure.
