Global Regularity and Finite Time Blow-up in Model Fluid Equations

For many partial differential equations in fluid mechanics, determining whether solutions exist for all time or form singularities in finite time has been a longstanding open problem. To understand these issues, numerous model systems have been proposed. We will outline several recent results regarding model equations for the Euler and surface quasi-geostorphic equations.
