Computer vision lies at the heart of modern life. It is integral to modern digital mapping, smartphone photography, traffic cameras, and augmented reality (among other things). As it turns out, computer vision has a tight relationship with an ancient subject: algebraic geometry. I will describe some basic problems that arise from considering multiple camera images of a single scene, how they can be converted into problems in algebraic geometry, and how algebro-geometric techniques can be used to solve them. At the end, I will also discuss a few recent results linking these classical problems in computer vision to the modern theory of moduli spaces.
