This talk summarizes advances in field-based simulation of microelectronics. Rapid electromagnetic solvers, rigorous coupling to SPICE engines, transient and nonlinear modeling, parallelization and scalability, mixed-physics modeling, design cycle acceleration, and variability-aware simulation and design are all required in order to aid in automated design of emerging high-speed mixed-technology systems. Specific advances and breakthroughs in these areas will be discussed and current challenges will be summarized.
